Industrial Engines for Alternative Fuels Industry - Energy - Fuel Cells
Alternative fuels are a different way of powering industrial engines – without compromising power or performance. The proven technology and innovations of today lead our customers and us toward net-zero emissions tomorrow.
Hydrogen as a fuel
Hydrogen as a fuel
As a renewable resource, hydrogen can help support your company's decarbonization strategy. It is as efficient as traditional diesel but with significantly lower exhaust emissions. We recommend Green Hydrogen, created through water electrolysis using solar, wind, and water power sources, for a fully carbon-neutral hydrogen production cycle.
Hydrogen dual fuel engine
Volvo Penta’s hydrogen engine operates similarly to the regular D8 model, but mainly uses hydrogen instead of diesel. When hydrogen is not available, traditional fuel can be used. This safeguards productivity and uptime while future-proofing your operations, even without reliable hydrogen infrastructure yet in place.
Bringing the future to the table with CMB.TECH
Together with CMB.TECH, Volvo Penta is running pilots and further developing dual-fuel hydrogen-powered solutions. CMB.TECH provides and trails the hydrogen add-on kit and tank system that work together with the Volvo Penta D8 engine and software. Through our joint ambition, we’ll help our customers transition to net-zero emissions.
