Benefits of an efficient process control system for biogas plants
Published in: Biogas Engineering and Application, Vol. 3 / Papers of the Sino-German GIZ Biomass Utilization Project of MOA in China
Edited by: Prof. Dr. DONG Renjie, Prof- Dr. Bernhard Raninger
This article presents the development and testing of software to improve the process control system for biogas plants (digesters) to achieve substrate savings, improve process stability, avoid overfeeding and increase the CHPs full load operation periods by employing smart control methods to adjust the buffered gas volumes. This is made possible by simple, accurate and reliable gas flow measurement and (gas) analysis technology.
In the EU, and especially in Germany, the use of renewable energy sources is welcomed and accordingly encouraged by government policies. This includes not only the harnessing of solar, wind, and geothermal energy, but also the energy derived from biogas, which can be generated from organic waste (slurry, manure and biomass) and energy crops (renewable raw materials). This market is undergoing rapid growth, especially in other European and Asian countries, while in Germany the economically viable capacities have almost been exhausted....
