Conveyor oven - Welding consumables company
Epcon has extensive experience in designing and building Industrial Conveyor Ovens for the Welding Consumables Industry.
The Problem
The company produces welding rods that must be dried to a certain specification before the process is complete.
The Process
The welding rods must travel through 3 zones at certain temperatures and meet the requirement for low moisture content to continue through the manufacturing process.
The Solution
Epcon designed and built a 3 floor oven with each floor having 2 conveyor passes. The oven is completely automated and rods go from one pass to another, transferring automatically. At the end of each conveyor pass there is a transfer wheel that lifts the product off the upper conveyor and sends the product down onto the lower conveyor. At the end of each conveyor pass, there is atransfer wheel that lifts the product off the upper conveyor and sends the product down onto the lower conveyor.
The drying starts from the top floor at 940°F for two passes, then goes to the second floor at 680°F. From there it goes to the first floor at 325°F set temperature and then goes through a cooling zone to cool down. The system is completely automated having Compaq Logic L32E PLC and Safety Guard PLC 1600. Each zone has its own combustion chamber with a recirculation fan and burner. The compete oven has a 6 flat wire belt conveyrs to transfer the product through the oven zones and cooling section. At the end of the cooling zone, the rods are analyzed for moisture content
The Benefits
The company is now able to completely dry the welding rods. Emissions have been eliminated and operating cost is lower due to less needed manpower and the oven being completely automated.
