Demand response case study

Resource Energy was selected to create a strategic plan in order for one of the nation’s largest owners of commercial real estate to participate in demand response programs. The customer had never before enrolled in such programs. It was interested in both implementing a green initiative and producing a new revenue stream, but the customer had avoided demand response enrollment due to concerns that curtailment of energy usage at peak or emergency times would detrimentally affect the operations of its properties.
In response to the customer’s concerns, Resource Energy designed a comprehensive, in-depth plan for each of the customer’s properties located in demand response territories. In the process, the customer’s onsite property management team at each site was provided with a customized and detailed plan to maximize curtailment of energy demand during peak or emergency times. In the process of working with onsite staff, the customer realized that its properties would not be negatively impacted by the degree of energy curtailment called for in such plans.
The customer has realized revenue of nearly $500,000 per year and in the process implemented a significant green initiative and experienced no adverse impact on any of its properties. Equally important: this added revenue was achieved at no capital cost and no additional operating expense.
