About the Environment Agency
The Environment Agency (EA) is a non-departmental Public Body which reports to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. It is also an Assembly Sponsored Public Body of the National Assembly for Wales. The Environment Agency describes its purpose as 'to protect or enhance the environment, taken as a whole' and to promote 'the objective of achieving sustainable development'.1 This includes championing a low carbon economy and the widespread creation of new ‘green’ jobs. The EA are the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC EES) administrator, and bearing this in mind the Agency has progressed rollouts of frontline technologies such as Voltage Power Optimisation (VPO) and Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) to demonstrate their leadership in the scheme.
A history of powerPerfector’s work with the Environment Agency
Trials of Voltage Optimisation in 2009 led the Environment Agency to establish a framework contract for rolling out 33 of their largest Office and Laboratory sites. Following two stage competitive tendering powerPerfector Ltd were selected as the preferred supplier in November 2009.
A powerPerfector Project Manager – qualified PRINCE 2 Practitioner – was assigned to the project along with our approved installation partner Sterling Power Utilities. The Project Manager keeps over 20 UK wide EA contacts up to date with progress issuing weekly reports and works with an EA appointed coordinator to ensure the project meets the Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations 2007 as the EA required the contract to be notifiable to the Health and Safety Executive.
Installations commenced in January 2010 and the powerPerfector Analysis team has compared pre and post installation energy consumption objectively to assist the EA in tracking the achieved reductions in energy consumption and associated CO2 emissions.
Following successful installations powerPerfector Ltd are now assisting the EA in trials of VPO on specialist pumping sites to achieve the full benefit across the estate.
