Exhaust Gas Treatment in Paint Shops: Volkswagen chooses catalytic afterburning
Courtesy of Clariant International Ltd.
Paint shops are an energy-intensive step in the automotive manufacturing process. One of the world´s largest paint-shop complexes is operated by the Volkswagen Group at its main plant in Wolfsburg. In the past VW used hot air from thermal afterburners to heat its paint dryers. Following a detailed review, the company was one of the first to decide to upgrade these burners by installing oxidation catalysts. This has led to 40% savings in energy cost, as well as reduced emission levels.
