NexGen Energy Partners, LLC (Boulder, CO) and Bella Energy (Louisville, CO) have received a contract from Salt Lake County in Utah to design and install a solar power installation on the roof of the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City. NexGen and Bella have presented a plan to install up to 2.6 MW of solar modules on the building—a capacity that would make the installation the largest rooftop solar plant in the United States, according to the companies. NexGen Energy will own and operate the facility and sell the power to Salt Lake County at a fixed rate, while Bella Energy will design and install the project. The NexGen-Bella team won the job through a competitive request for proposals (RFP) process that took four months and began with 12 applicants.
