Hammerfest Strøm AS is a Norwegian technology company established in 1997. The Company has since its inception been engaged in research and development of state-of-the-art tidal energy technology. In 2003 the company installed a prototype of a future power plant. The prototype, called HS300, delivered electricity to the commercial energy net for almost 4 years before it was removed from service for major inspection. The turbine was reinstalled after the inspection, and is now going through a trail period. The subsidiary company Hammerfest Strøm UK established in Glasgow, Scotland is responsible for developing the British and Irish energy markets. Hammerfest Strøm UK also has a joint venture with ScottishPower Renewables.
ANDRITZ HYDRO Hammerfest develops and supplies turn-key tidal power arrays to the global energy market. The Company was established in 1997 by the local utility company Hammerfest Energi. Today the Company has offices in Hammerfest, Norway and Glasgow, Scotland. We aim to build UK as a reference market, and have established a Joint Venture with a Scottish utility company to develop several tidal power projects.
