ATB Riva Calzoni was formed in 2003 by merging the decades-long technical capabilities and the facilities of Acciaieria e Tubificio di Brescia (ATB) and Riva Calzoni Impianti (Riva Calzoni). Alessandro Calzoni, born in Bologna in 1807, was in his 20’s when he started his company in 1834, which made him one of the pioneers of the industrial revolution in the mechanical engineering industry in Italy. In 1867, Calzoni became the first company in Italy to manufacture water turbine in addition to the agricultural machines and presses. Calzoni exhibited at almost all the industrial fairs of the time, including the Philadelphia Exhibition in 1876. In 1903, Giulio Togni founded “Officine Meccaniche Togni” in Brescia and produced penstocks for hydropower plants. Acciaieria e Tubificio di Brescia (ATB) was established in 1934 through the merger of the workshops, designs, patents and trademarks of ‘Società Italiana Tubi Togni’ and ‘Società Siderurgica Togni’. The company met the growing needs of Italian industrialization and became the leading fabricator of high-pressure pipes for penstocks applications. The design of banded penstocks (externally reinforced with hot fitted forged rings) has long been one of the ATB’s patents. In the last few years, the company has also developed on-site welding of high strength quenched and tempered steels with considerable saving in the steel thickness, compared with the traditional plain carbon steel pipe works.
In the early 1970’s, the company became the first Italian company to be qualified by ASME as an authorized holder of S, U and U2 stamps to manufacture pressure vessels for the United States market. Thanks to several decades of experience, ATB Riva Calzoni has now become one of the world leaders in manufacturing the components made of Cr Mo materials including last generation Vanadium modified alloys. The company has also developed special expertise in welding stainless steel and duplex Urea grade corrosion resistant material.
Since the 1960’s, ATB Riva Calzoni has established several partnerships with local manufacturers in a few emerging industrialized countries to achieve a wider presence in the international market. ATB Riva Calzoni operates several companies in Latin America, far East, and India in partnership with local partners to maximize the use of local facilities and resources in projects implementation.
