Biogas Weser-Ems GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 2000 by current directors Ing. Johannes Gehlenborg and Eng. Klaus Hanneken.
Both directors were already involved in projects and planning in the biogas sector. The first plants were already built and in operation in 1996 and, in the year 2000, Biogas Weser-Ems GmbH & Co. KG built the first ‘turnkey’ biogas plant.
The Law on Renewable Energy (EEG, Germany), dating from 2000, transforms the fermentation of raw material from the food industry in an more attractive economical activity.
The first biogas plants were constructed for the fermentation of fats and sewage sludge. The region between the rivers Weser and Ems is characterized by intense livestock activity, and biogas plants are responsible for that waste will be properly exploited.
An even bigger boom in the industry of biogas was done due to the amendment to the Law on Renewable Energy in 2004, which promoted the use of renewable crops in biogas plants. These substrates are characterized by an essentially intense agitation required and sophisticated pumping systems during their treatment.
The first energy parks went into operation in 2006.
These plants require digesters of large volume, solid feeder substrates, intense agitation and sophisticated pumping systems with high quality. Since the establishment of the parks, Biogas Weser-Ems GmbH & Co. KG was responsible for the operation, maintenance and management of plants.
The heating systems for biogas plants are constantly being improved.
Biogas Weser-Ems GmbH & Co. KG plants supply heat to greenhouses, in agriculture processes and industries. Moreover, a large number of heating networks have been built to supply heat to the housing environment.
In 2008 begins the European expansion of Biogas Weser-Ems.
During this year are the first companies established subsidiaries: In Italy IES Biogas Srl, and in Spain, begin the operations of our company Bentec Bioenergies SLU.
