History
The predecessor of the company was founded in 1844 by Abraham Ganz, a casting master with swiss origin. The key to the success of Ganz companies was the foreseeing of future demands with intuition, initiative and entrepreneurial spirit, based on enormous professional knowledge. The founder's invention is the hard-casting – which made it possible to manufacture high resistant railcar wheels – ensure great advantage, thus had founded the future of the company.
After the death of Ganz, in a short period the factory was taken over by András Mechwart, who constructed the structure of the roller-mill and improved it to a perfectly usable machine that revolutionized the world's mill industry from Australia to North America. Under the leadership of Mechwart, Ganz has become one of Europe's largest machinery factories, producing agricultural machinery, complete mills, steam locomotives, rail cars, ships, hydromachines and much more. Mechwart recognizing the importance of electricity in development – created a separate electrical department. Excellent engineers working at Ganz.
At the beginning of his career, Nikola Tesla – the inventor of the multi-phase electric network, the AC motor and among others of the radio – also worked at Ganz.
Kalman Kando was the first in the world to develop a phase-changing electric locomotive that revolutionized rail traction.
The famous diesel engines of Gyorgy Jendrassik made it possible for Ganz to deliver over 2000 diesel locomotives and trains from Argentina to China for many countries of the world.
In 1885, the company's engineers invented the world's first transformer and modern electricity distributor. The power of engineering and development shows the fact that the concept of the power plant of Niagara Falls was also connected with the engineers of Ganz. Hungarian engineers created a number of other technological innovations: among them, a turbo-generator or pumps, created on the basis of propeller turbines with adjustable blades of Victor Kaplan, what significantly increased the productivity of the machine.
During almost 180 years of its history, Ganz factories have been hit by wars, economic and political crises, but the devotion, diligence and ingenuity of managers, engineers and workers as well as the high quality of their work have ensured and still guarantees the future of the company.
The goal is no less than to restore back that name, that was crucial for the Hungarian industry and the world of machinery manufacture in the past nearly 180 years.
