About Us
The staff at the BWE's headquarters in Berlin coordinate the Association's work for all of Germany. Above all, they ensure that our members receive comprehensive assistance. In addition to the department for members / committees and general Association administration, the two departments of Policy and Communications are part of headquarters. Furthermore, the editors of neue energie, the magazine for our members, are also located here, as is the BWE-Service department.
Each day, our staff cover current issues concerning the wind sector in the fields of policy, public relations, technology, law and processes. They collate the latest information and pass it all on to the specific department within the Association. The BWE's website, brochures, flyers, and current press releases are only a few of the channels that the Association uses to inform the general public about the work it does and the concerns it has.
Promoting wind power worldwide
As the largest association in the renewables sector worldwide, the BWE also deals with the great international interest in wind energy within Germany in its everyday work at headquarters. We get queries from all over the world on the German success story.
More than 45 countries, such as Spain and France, have adopted feed-in tariffs based on the German example. Asian countries such as South Korea, China, and Japan have shown great interest in the German switch to renewables. The BWE therefore contributes its competence to international policy consulting by working with major international associations.
Statistics
Are you looking for figures and statistics on wind energy? A reliable data basis on the expansion of renewables is important for representatives of the press, as well as for students, political employees and interested citizens, in order to assess the success of the German and international energy transition. The BWE therefore endeavours to provide the most up-to-date and comprehensive statistical information possible. The figures under the menu item 'Germany' refer to the expansion of onshore wind energy.
Association - Tasks and Goals
Climate change and rising energy costs are a crucial challenge for the 21st century – and will remain so. The increasing scarcity of fossil energy, growing demand for energy, and the warming of our planet are all reasons to revisit our energy policy.
The way Germany, Europe, and the world tackle this issue today will decisively affect the way we all live tomorrow. In Germany, people reacted to these challenges early on and began switching to distributed, renewable energy. Today, clean, reliable wind power is a major pillar of our energy supply more than ever before.
The German Wind Energy Association – a strong partner
In the process, Germany is a role model for many countries. Since its founding in 1996, the German Wind Energy Association (Bundesverband WindEnergie e.V. or BWE) has played a major role in that process. With some 20,000 members, it is one of the world's largest associations in the renewables sector. For years, the BWE has been increasingly successful in efficiently expanding wind power in Germany for the long term. Furthermore, our experts work in such international associations as the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) in developing wind energy within Europe and worldwide. In this way, the German success story of feed-in tariffs have since been adopted in more than 45 countries.
With its ambitious expansion targets, the wind power sector is the main driver behind the switch to renewables. The BWE and its members do their utmost to ensure that the success story of German wind power continues – and that the vision of '100 percent renewable power' becomes a reality in Germany soon.
