About Us
All of our products are manufactured to a minimum of the ASTM specifications (as well as JIS, DIN and OEM specific requirements), and in many cases, we meet customer specifications that are much tighter than industry requirements. In addition, we can cut and end finish to your specifications. Other fabrication may be available upon request.

Cutting-Edge Practices
Our success depends on your satisfaction. Because of this we have a long history of reliability and stability. Not only are we reliable as a company, but our products are as well. We buy directly from steel mills to ensure the base material is consistent.
We also partner with the top equipment producers in the steel tube industry to stay informed of new methods and processes. We work hard to be cutting edge, like our new installations of Xiris weld detection systems, to ensure you receive the best weld possible.
Our facilities are located near steel manufacturers in order to reduce inbound freight and pass savings on to you. We are also experienced in exporting and tailored packaging, and consignment warehousing. The Phillips Tube Group owns its own trucking company, which makes shipping faster and easier because we control the schedules.
The Phillips Tube Group companies offer gauge range of .25” (.638mm) to .157” (4.0mm) and full range (OD) of .3125” (7.938mm) to 5.0” (127mm).
Facilities
Phillips Tube Group owns and operates three facilities that manufacture carbon and/or stainless steel tube, and its own trucking division to provide faster delivery times. Shelby Welded Tube and Middletown Tube Works are both located in Ohio, strategically close to steel suppliers.
Deep in the heart of Alabama’s automotive hotbed, you’ll find Phillips Tube Group of Alabama. Located in Pell City, it’s just 10 miles from Honda and 55 from Mercedes, which allows us to provide fast and round-the-clock service to automotive component manufacturers.
History
Middletown Tube Works, Inc. was purchased from Armco Steel (now AK Steel) in 1993 by the late Ralph Phillips. Mr. Phillips and his team immediately streamlined the company to provide highly formable coated and non-coated welded steel tube for industries including HVAC, appliance and others.
In 1997, Middletown Tube Works entered the automotive market by offering tubing for the fuel filler application to several Tier 1 and 2 suppliers.
In the years following, Middletown Tube Works expanded its automotive footprint by shipping to Mexico, and later Europe, Australia and China. In 2006, Middletown Tube Works upgraded its Quality system from QS 9000 to ISO/TS 16949 certified to better align with the needs of automotive.
The company also added new products to its automotive lineup, including seating components, exhaust components and fluid systems.
In 2009, following the passing of owner and founder Ralph Phillips, Angela Phillips became owner of all voting stock and moved up from VP to take over managing the operations. After this transition, the company received its WBENC certification in 2010.
As a company, Middletown Tube Works continues to grow as a business and its capabilities. As some competitors cease operations, Middletown’s market share increases.

Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) Certification
WBENC provides and manages the development, enforcement and implementation of its gold standard of certification, which is nationally accepted by thousands of major corporations and a select group of government entities. WBENC certification is a rigorous, multi-faceted business application and review process that is conducted by a trained certification review committee to ensure that women-owned businesses applying for certification are 51 percent owned, operated and controlled by a woman or group of women.
This stipulation is a requirement on which WBENC was founded as a key service to Corporate Members interested in doing business with women owned businesses. Middletown Tube Works achieved its WBENC certification in 2010.
