Fuel Poverty in the UK is a major issue, as energy prices continue to rise many households have to make the choice; heat and light or food and rent.
There are many initiatives in the UK to tackle fuel poverty such as improving home insulation through government grants, fuel allowances for the most vulnerable and more fuel efficient boilers to reduce household bills …. So why is fuel poverty not going away?
High numbers of households remain in fuel poverty partly down to fairly static wage increases and the ever increasing cost of energy to fuel the home. Recycle Solar are committed to reducing fuel poverty by providing funding for local community projects to help the fuel poor in your area.
We offer a used or unwanted Solar PV Panel take back scheme and also a Solar-PX (solar part exchange) scheme to prevent Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) going to landfill. Our processes are licensed and government approved. You can help by sending us any unwanted solar technology e.g. Solar PV Modules, Solar PV Inverters, Roof Mounting Systems, Solar Meters, etc
Where possible we will refurbish all products which are working, in good condition & safe. Once refurbished these products will be donated to good causes throughout the UK to provide free energy, in addition a percentage of our profits from our recycling processes will also be donated to UK charities and clubs.
A truly environmental, social & economic initiative.
The UK Government define fuel poverty as;
'A household is considered to be fuel poor if: they have required fuel costs that are above average (the national median level); and, were they to spend that amount, they would be left with a residual income below the official poverty line.'
The combination of household income, household energy efficiency and fuel prices can be combined and calculated to work out if a household is in fuel poverty.
In 2014, the last time the figures were calculated, it was found that a staggering 2.38 million homes in England were in fuel poverty. That is 10.6 per cent of all the homes in England. A huge number and one which the government has tried to address through various initiatives, some more successful than others. In general though the number of households in fuel poverty hasn’t been reduced by any significant amount and in some years has increased.
