The history of Ropatec S.r.l. of Bolzano is an example of how a small company that invests in technology can become a market leader in a few years. Ropatec is gaining important success in many countries both with its Publienergy and energy dedicated products. In 1995 the founder and CEO of Ropatec, Robert Niederkofler started the development of a new way of harnessing wind energy with a vertical axis turbine. The first 3kW turbines were placed close to mountain shelters and in Antarctica with the CNR (Italian National Research Council) collaboration. Thanks to this experiences in 2001 the know-how was high and that allowed the foundation of Ropatec. After 15 years of development and more than 1500 wind turbines sold worldwide Ropatec is now the only company in the world that can offer a product of this kind that suits many applications.
Ropatec is one of the leaders in vertical-axis, small wind turbines; After more than 10 years of development and hundreds of turbines sold - such as at research institutes in Antarctica, Telecoms, large groups such as Tesco, B & Q, Audi, Mediamarkt, government institutions, United Nations and many other companies, etc.. - Ropatec is the only company in the world to offer, in addition to a wide KW range and potential applications, a product with unique features: silence, high efficiency, and almost no maintenance.
Ropatec was established in Bolzano, northern Italy, in 2001. Bolzano is located at the foothills of the Alps, in the beautiful region of South Tyrol, known throughout Europe for the long-standing protection of the environment and sacrosanct traditions. After a long design study period, the company began testing in 1996 a series of innovative, small wind turbine prototypes under extreme weather conditions atop the Alpine peaks. The aim of this effort was to develop a product that was absolutely reliable and durable.
Ropatec wind turbines are today present in over 30 countries. It is a reliable solution for those private households, remote settlements, farms, water output plants, large telecommunication companies, or industrial conglomerates, looking to boost their reach in diverse economic areas currently with or without grid access.
To produce a silent and low-impact technology - with a high output of renewable energy, that is our twofold focus.
We believe in sustainability, in innovation, but we believe that the technology of the future must have a minimum impact on the environment. Our effort is to develop technology for distributed energy as much as decentralized energy. That is why, yesterday, we chose small wind turbines – the most versatile, efficient renewable energy on the market, which today is proving to be a flexible, robust and adaptive technology.
