Electronics for an ecological future
Steca develops and manufactures electronics 'made in Bavaria' for an ecological future. These electronics make a global contribution to using energy efficiently and reducing electricity consumption. Furthermore, the solar technology division supports the use of clean, renewable energy sources, and thus also contributes to CO2 reduction. Steca also sets a good example – by employing environmentally friendly production processes and by actively participating in research projects aimed at efficient energy use and climate protection. The German federal government has therefore listed Steca as an authority for energy generation in the environmental technology atlas 'Green Tech made in Germany'.
Service provider for the environment
As an electronics service provider, Steca makes a considerable contribution to ensuring that energy is used effectively and economically. The company achieves these energy savings with the millions of electronic components it produces for devices classified in energy efficiency class A++. These components save twelve million kilowatt hours of electricity each year. This is equivalent to the energy consumption of 3,500 households. Using a minimum of electricity and raw materials whilst providing maximum performance is also the focus for the electronic components which Steca develops and produces for motion detectors and network circuit breakers, devices for water and weather measurement technology, and analysis processes in medicine and industry. Further examples include photovoltaic controllers for improving the energy balance in automobile applications.
Manufacturer for the environment
As a manufacturer, too, Steca places the emphasis on production for an ecological future. The solar electronics division supports and facilitates environmentally-friendly use of clean and free solar energy. Steca is the world's only manufacturer active in all three market segments of solar technology: Steca develops products for feeding the public grid (PV grid connected), for stand-alone systems (PV off grid) and to provide hot water (solar thermal). With success: Steca is the global market leader in the PV off grid segment, and second in solar thermal. Steca also develops and distributes battery charging systems which use the maximum energy storage potential. Complete management systems for bus depots help prevent environmental pollution by reducing cold-run phases. This saves one million litres of diesel every year.
Innovator for the environment
The company, which was founded in 1976, has evolved from a small assembly company into a globally active comprehensive electronics service provider. At the heart of the company's willingness to innovate are the employees of the development department at the Memmingen headquarters. This division thoroughly implements the company's philosophy of developing only high-performance products with an optimal energy balance. Steca's early entrance into the solar market in 1990, as one of the first industrial companies to complete the move, has also paid off: Steca's annual growth rates stand at 15%. As an expanding company, Steca will continue to bank on Germany and Bavaria as an energy industry centre.
Environmental policy
The environmental policy applies to all locations while taking country-specific environmental legislation into account.
Building upon this, we are embarking on the path of continual improvement. The following principles of action outline our holistic company philosophy regarding the environment and serve as guidelines for us:
- Steca undertakes to go beyond observing the relevant environmental provisions and to continually improve corporate environmental protection. Energy and material resources are used in an environmentally aware manner.
- The environmental consequences of our actions are assessed as soon as possible in order to avoid environmental pollution.
- Environmental damage is avoided by exhausting all viable organisational and technical possibilities that are economically acceptable.
- In our concept for the environment, we consider the whole logistic value-added chain and include suppliers, service providers and customers as well as transportation.
