Company Profile
Originally founded in 1943, UNAC is directed today by Michael Unac, a descendant from a long line of entrepreneurs. Michael Unac, took up the family torch with the same passion that the past 2 generations displayed; each one used their creativity, desire and work ethic from manufacturing agricultural trailers to designing specialized machines on the cutting-edge of technology to make UNAC an undeniable player in promising sectors such as integrated underground conduit installation systems or dual-purpose road-rail machines, as well as state-of-the-art military dozers.
To the contrary of capitalistic multinational companies, UNAC bases its development on the most fundamental of human values: creativity, user-friendliness, listening, expertise, feedback, and customer service.
Current manufacturing trends are pushing manufacturers to become assemblers. UNAC decided to preserve their extensive expertise that covers all stages of production, from boiler and sheet metal works to electricity, including machining of parts. A UNAC carrier is therefore a home-made solution, crafted with care, which only those who see the product created from start to finish can provide.
The company has internal values that are tried and true, which always enable them to meet their customers' needs. The value of UNAC products is the result of capitalizing on expertise.
History
UNAC, a Family, a Story
Dates marking milestones in the company's development.
1943
UNAC was originally created in 1943 by Mr. Joseph Unac. The company was devoted to mechanical maintenance for industrial and agricultural vehicles.
1962
In 1962, his son, José Unac, took over the company, moving it to Vergèze in Southern France. His vision was to transform their know-how and technical knowledge so they could CREATE. He therefore broadened the company's horizons by beginning to manufacture tractor accessories, which would initially meet the needs of the local wine industry.
In 1962, augers were the first successful commercialised products bearing the UNAC brand. For this success, the company received an ingenuity award for their lateral offset augers that made farmers' lives easier.
1965
In 1965, UNAC released rotary tillers for weeding vines. Within just a few years, particularly in 1968, UNAC's rotary tillers were selling like hotcakes.
1967
Encouraged by the market, in 1967 UNAC released the rotary slasher, which was also a resounding success.
1969
UNAC continued their inventing endeavours, and in 1969 they filed the patent for their Sema-Bineuse (planting-hoeing device), which, at the time, revolutionized farmers' methods.
1970
UNAC's inter-row agricultural trailers were created in 1970. This product was a rarity in its time, providing grape producers access between vine rows, which facilitated their work during vine harvest time.
1973 - BIRTH OF TRENCHERS AT UNAC
In hopes of avoiding the effects of the aftermath of the oil price shock in 1973, which created an unprecedented economic crisis in the wine industry, UNAC again decided to branch out and become involved in burying networks.
The company therefore invested in transforming American-made trenchers into machines adapted for the French market.
The French problematics involved saving existing infrastructures and being able to create off-centre trenches on the side of roads so as not to disturb the pavement. Strengthened by their ingenuity and experience with off-centre systems, UNAC quickly and effectively responded to the demand and swiftly became a benchmark for companies in the mechanized burial market.
1982
Armed with extensive hydraulics knowledge, in 1982 UNAC fine-tuned a truck trencher, the first hydrostatic truck in the world.
1985
UNAC's trencher components became renowned throughout France, and in 1985, the “Armée de l'air française” (French Air Force) placed an order for 10 trencher vehicles based on Thomas vehicles and specific UNAC trenching equipment.
Ten years later, UNAC launched a large number of advanced trenching tools on the market, such as the rock saw, Alligator chain, installing box, sanding box, excavated material conveyors, and dump truck loading conveyors.
1994 - UNAC BECAME A MANUFECTURER
After a large number of references, UNAC realized that the effectiveness of their trenching tools depended too heavily on the carriers. The company was indeed convinced that a good trencher is the result of a complete manufacturing process.
Therefore, UNAC released its first tyre trencher, the first version of the 300P trencher.
The 300P was the first in a long series of UNAC vehicles; today, the company boasts more than 300 units created. UNAC Constructeur makes a name for itself in the public works sector.
UNAC Constructeur attracts new customers, helping them to penetrate new markets, still at the heart of their historical expertise.
1998 - UNAC LAUNCHES ITS FORESTRY MACHINES RANGE
In 1998, UNAC released the 160C, a carrier on caterpillar tracks designed for mulching in steep, difficult-to-reach areas. The 160C mulcher on caterpillar tracks thus met a very significant need, most notably around the contour of the Mediterranean, where access and working conditions are harsh. The machine was an instant success, and due to its reputed robustness, it continues to meets our customers' needs to this day. Since then, the company has released 4 new forestry models with tyre carriers in the NF series, as well as the 300RR Road-Rail mulcher.
2000 - UNAC LAUNCHED ITS RAILWAY MACHINES RANGE
Having become an indisputable specialist in mulching, UNAC therefore logically entered the road-rail market with the 300RR - the Road-Rail mulcher machine. Since then, its expertise recognized by the SNCF that certifies and approves each of its vehicles, as well as its expertise in road-rail machines has drawn numerous customers. As a result, the 'X range' was created - with road-rail elevators designed for use with overhead wire systems – as well as Unimog-type road-rail intervention vehicles, and the 22TRR Road-Rail excavator that offers unparalleled earth-moving and lifting capacities.
