Geothermol Energy 2021
Geothermol Energy is coming to the European Parliament - a drilling tour - event. The Paul-Henri Spaak (PHS) building of the European Parliament will start drilling operations to install a cooling system with geothermal energy. In 2021 this building will benefit from a renewable energy source that is available 24/7. This is just one of the many examples of how geothermal can decarbonise the heating and cooling needs in buildings all over Europe.

Data and Facts
This sends a clear message: the EU institutions can lead by example. Within this context, we think this should be just the beginning of a series of projects that will put geothermal at the heart of decarbonisation of EU’s building sector.
EGEC, the Geological Survey of Belgium and EuroGeoSurveys would like to make the most of this occasion by organising a tour of the drilling site/ event next to it.
The whole drilling operation should last around one month, as 3/4 wells are planned. The drilling itself is planned on the 25th November 2020. The whole drilling operation should last around one month, as 3/4 wells are planned. It could be as early as 25 November 2020 -16 January 2021.
It is unsure when the whole geothermal system will be fully operational. The renovation of the PHS is planned for 2030 and the geothermal installation will be designed in function of the needs of the future building and the results of a feasibility study.
The campaign will start on Friday 23 November and will end on 18 December.
