2020 – Overcoming a Tsunami, New Opportunities Have Arisen
2020 has been a very atypical year for ACS, as for many other companies which rely greatly on investment decisions from clients. Nevertheless, several application areas remained strong and new opportunities have shown up which may offer interesting business developments for the future.
Biomass remains as the most important renewable energy source due to its availability. Temperature (in combustion) and high moisture (in drying) leads clients to search for ACS high efficiency cyclones to overcome operating problems. In such a difficult year, we were fortunate enough to have sold 12different cyclone systems for Portugal, France, the UK, Canada, Brazil and Indonesia.
Moreover, within biomass we have been involved in a growing number of very high temperature applications involving gasification, incineration and pyrolysis. Following a past successful Waste to Energy project for a gasification plant, ACS secured another order for WTEnergy for a plant in Switzerland from Engie Group. More recently, the John Cockerill Group purchased a very high temperature, fully insulated cyclone to separate particles released by an activated carbon regenerator. ACS is also involved in the supply of cyclones for Value Added in MSW and RDF Incineration Plants – using efficient cyclones after the incinerator to reduce hazardous dust. Millions can be saved in landfill disposal costs with ash separation.
The powder recovery area keeps gaining traction and our cyclones are increasingly becoming a reference for very high efficiency collection, especially for high value products. Virus and bacteria are increasingly a worldwide concern. That will inevitably drive more powder manufacturers in pharma, food and fragrances to choose more aseptic solutions to separate 1st grade powders. Cyclones are by far the most easy-cleaning solution, but they need to be as efficient as possible.
In the pharmaceutical area, Hovione Pharma alone acquired ACS cyclones for4 different projects and Mannkind Corporation repeated another cyclonefollowing a very successful spray drying project in the past. For food ingredients we got our first order in Brazil for giant food company Mondelez and in the chemicals application we secured several projects, among which Lithium Hydroxide recovery for NTE Process – italian company specialized inbulk material handling and pneumatic conveying and tungsten carbide recovery for germa Vettertec, both renowned suppliers and integrators in the drying industry.
Above all, we truly believe to have done our best to deliver value for our clients. That is the way to ensure we overcome difficult times like these.
Let’s all make 2021 a great year!
