2nd Annual Conference of the industrial initiative Dii

Source: FCBI Energy

This year has so far been dominated by the significant political transitions in North Africa and a worldwide re-evaluation of our energy supply. Both developments have accelerated the implementation of the Desertec vision. At Dii’s second annual conference at the Semiramis InterContinental Hotel in Cairo (2nd and 3rd November 2011) the following questions will be discussed:

What has the Dii achieved two years after its foundation? What is the status of the first demonstration projects? What does the Arab spring hold for the implementation of the Desertec vision and how will the region benefit from the scale-up of renewable energies in the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East?

The conference will be held under the patronage of the Egyptian prime minister. Speakers and participants will be CEOs and high-level representatives from throughout Europe and the MENA region. They will represent the business sector as well as national and international politics, industry associations and research institutions. Further topics will be the integration of energy markets as a decisive element for the energy cooperation in the Mediterranean region and the socioeconomic impacts of renewable energy projects. During the conference the DESERTEC Thesis Award will be given to young academics that have done outstanding work on a desert power related topic.

The conference aims at determining the factors necessary to implement the Desertec Vision. Our choice of venue is intended to illustrate that the development of renewable energy sources should first and foremost benefit the MENA region.
