ABLE awarded field instrument package for national grid gas pipeline
ABLE is pleased to announce the award of the field instrument package for the natural gas pipeline connection linking EDF Energy’s new 1,300MW combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Station at its West Burton site in Nottinghamshire to the National Grid National Transmission System (NTS), some 12 miles away, at Grayingham, Lincolnshire.
EDF Energy was granted consent to build the new Power Station by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory reform on 30 October 2007, with initial site works commencing January 2008. The new highly efficient CCGT power station, which will be ready for commercial operation in 2011, will make significant contribution to meeting the UK future energy demand whilst helping to cut carbon dioxide emissions.
An underground pipeline will connect the new power station with the National Grid NTS. The connection to the electricity transmission system will be via a new 1km underground cable to the National Grid 400kV substation which already exists within the West Burton site boundary.
The pipeline project field instrumentation package, comprising pressure and temperature gauges & transmitters, thermowells, ESD hand switches and Hart communicators is sourced from several suppliers. To meet the Projects design requirements, the pressure transmitters will be mounted remotely from the process inside multiple and single secondary instrument housing for added protection and security. Using ABLE’s highly effective package procurement and value added engineering services keeps the cost of procurement to a minimum and single point of contact ensures all aspects of supply are consistent.
