Source: American Chemistry Council (ACC)
Washington -- This week, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced up to $133 million in new and innovative advanced vehicle technologies research. The following statement may be attributed to Gina Oliver, senior director of automotive, Plastics Division of the American Chemistry Council.
“We’re excited to see the Department of Energy (DOE) take this important step and significantly invest in research that puts consumers on a path to more efficient, safe and affordable automotive transportation. The funds are allocated to support critical priorities including investments in materials technology, batteries and electrification.
“It is noteworthy that, of the allocated funds, $15M was set aside specifically for materials technology research. In particular, research on lightweight and high-performance fiber-reinforced polymer composites for vehicle applications will be funded.
“This funding commitment is also a recognition of plastics’ role at the forefront of automotive innovation. Plastics are helping drive megatrends in mobility, such as fuel efficiency, enhanced safety, autonomous vehicles, connectivity, ride-sharing, and electrification.”
