Today in Brisbane, Environment Minister Peter Garrett officially opened Bradford Insulation’s new Brisbane plant and launched the national register of insulation providers, kick-starting the main phase of the Government’s $4 billion Energy Efficient Homes Package

Mr Garrett said that with today’s launch of the Installer Provider Register for ceiling insulation, householders all over Australia could now find a suitable insulation installer and be off and running when the program officially starts on Wednesday, 1 July 2009 – stepping up the largest-ever energy efficiency rollout in Australia.

“From today, householders can start shopping around and working out which registered installer and type of insulation is right for them,” Mr Garrett said.

“All it takes is a phone call to our national hotline or a visit to our website to find a registered installer working in your area, then you can arrange for a quote.”

“People can investigate options now and their registered installer can do the work anytime from Wednesday morning.”
All installers on the register are required to hold minimum skills and competencies, and their work must comply with Australian standards. More than 3,000 businesses are already on the register, employing thousands of individual installers.
“If the total cost of installation is less than $1,600, homeowners will have no more to pay because the registered insulation installer will claim the assistance directly from the Government,” Mr Garrett said.

“This will be the case for many homeowners, as the Government assistance will cover an average Australian home.
“Ceiling insulation is one of the most cost effective ways to reduce energy use within the home and this new register makes it as easy as possible for people to take up this generous offer.

“Not only is this a great offer for householders, but industry are also experiencing a huge upturn, like manufacturer Bradford Insulation here in Queensland, where I launched the register today.”

As well as the ceiling insulation offer for homeowners, there is also insulation assistance of up to $1,000 available for renters and landlords. It is expected around 2.9 million households Australia-wide will benefit from these insulation offers.
The Energy Efficient Homes Package also provides a rebate of $1,600 to help eligible homeowners, landlords or tenants replace their electric storage hot water systems with solar or heat pump hot water systems.
