Proudly Austrian - local wood, local products and the power of the Austrian sun. The stunning 4-star superior Hotel ‘Gradonna Mountain Resort’ in Kals at the edge of the Grossglockner, offers not only supreme comfort but also outstanding service for the environment. Soon to be awarded with two environmental awards, the hotel has installed a solar system to accommodate a contemporary energy source for the efficiency of the building in 2012.
At the edge of the Grossglockner, the ‘Gradonna Mountain Resort’ offers a breathtaking view over the alpine scenery. The perfect location, a sunny plateau in East Tyrol, offers an abundance of the most hours of sunshine in the Tyrol per year - an ideal condition for the utilization of solar energy. The owners of the newly built hotel, family Schultz, opted for a TiSUN solar system to regenerate warm water and heating for the hotel facility and the 30m swimming pool. A collector surface of 170m² was installed. Due to its environmentally sensitive building design, the ‘Gradonna Mountain Resort’ will be awarded with two certificates.
‘Our guests should experience the comfort of nature. Hence, we uncompromisingly have chosen for Austrian quality materials,’ explains the director of the hotel Mr. Florian Partel. Natural stone and wood elements provide a visual sense of well-being and TiSUN’s solar system brings sunshine and warmth into the hotel. The solar system is supported by a wood chip and pellet unit, which underlines the thought of sustainable efficiency. ‘Environmental impact and sustainability have played a vital role in the architectural concept to further not only the economical aspects but also the ecological ones. Therefore, the mix of solar thermal, wood chip and pellets is the right one for us ‘explains Partel. A solar fraction of 25% enables the hotel to save approximately 17,500 kg of pellets per year. Additionally, five tons of CO2 production has been reduced.
In general, the 4-star superior hotel leaves nothing to be desired. Equipped with a 3,000m² spa area with three indoor and heated outdoor pools, a steam room and an extensive sauna area, a gym and bolder hall, the hotel should attract international guests and deliver Austrian ‘Gemütlichkeit’. ‘It was important to deliver the perfect overall package for our guests and staff. We wanted to embrace the external natural beauty; therefore, we have implemented it into our interior design. As the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner has a very special aura, which underlines a state of the art but down to earth concept of the spa-resort.
