BioGen Power to build world`s largest residual waste gasification plant
BioGen Power has received planning permission to build the world’s largest waste gasification facility to be fuelled by residual waste in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
The facility will process 160,000 tonnes of residual waste each year, generating 83,300 MWe of electricity.
Energos, owned by Manchester-based energy solution provider Ener-G, will supply the gasification technology.
BioGen Power chief executive Christian Reeve said: “The quality of the application together with the proven nature of our chosen Energos technology, enabled us to win over the hearts and minds of the planning committee who recognised that as a council they needed to be proactive and at the leading edge of future waste management planning. Our approved application here will ensure that Bradford benefits from a well proven, economical, green and clean alternative to the outdated and un-environmentally friendly acceptable practice of landfill.”
News of the planning permission makes the Bradford facility the fifth BioGen Power plant to receive the go-ahead. A further three projects are awaiting planning decisions, while sites have been secured for an additional three facilities. BioGen Power aims to treat 1.5 million tonnes of waste annually when 12 of its gasification plants are operational.
