BioWatt celebrates its six months of operation CEO James Lloyd reflects back month-on-month
BioWatt formally launched into the UK market in December 2012, announcing major framework partnering and engineering contracts as a launch pad for immediate growth.
To mark our sixth months of operation at BioWatt we have launched our new web platform and site. The new site contains more information about what we can do for our current and potential clients, and details of our funding partners for developing biogas projects in the UK, as well as our latest news and developments.
The last 6 months have been intense and we have seen exciting changes. Our CEO, James Lloyd looks back month by month:
Month 1: In late 2012 we signed a landmark Framework Agreement with Europe’s largest and most successful biogas developer to develop over 50MW of new biogas projects in the UK. This would represent some £400-500m of new investment in renewables in the UK along with all the new jobs and benefits it will bring to our environment, energy infrastructure and economy.
Month 2: In January 2013 we became part of the project delivery team for Shanks Waste Management Ltd, as part of the Wakefield Private Finance Initiative. Shanks retained the services of BioWatt’s Engineering team to design and build a fully enclosed composting system over the next two years for the Council’s organic waste. The contract represents BioWatt’s first major commercial success and we’re immensely proud to be working alongside this blue chip waste company on such a landmark project!
Month 3: In February we moved into our new home near the Barbican Centre in London, setting up an office of 5 people (with plenty of scope to expand) handling both engineering and biogas development projects. The rest of our team is spread throughout the UK, much like our projects. However, 124 Aldersgate Street is a great location, gives us a high quality home and meeting place in a beautifully restored London town house set back from the street in its own courtyard. Let us know if you are in town and drop by for coffee!
Month 4: We took stock of progress, consolidated and also held our first full quarterly Board Meeting. With little time for celebration, the order of the day was resourcing and strategic planning to ensure that we build on and secure these solid foundations.
Month 5: We began work on our first major Anaerobic Digestion project a £15m biogas project to treat green and food waste through a Dry Anaerobic Digestion process. We hope to announce that full construction is underway in the summer, with completion expected by summer 2014.
Month 6: We employed Gayle, the latest member of our burgeoning team, to meet the needs of the various projects and engineering works we have committed to and as alluded to above, the team has grown considerably. Starting out with just two employees 6 months ago, we are now up to a team of 8 and still growing. We expect to announce at least two further key contracts this year – if you are looking to get into this fast moving sector then watch this space!.
