Borg CO2 selects Citec and COWI for CCS Concept Study and Technical Advisory Services
On behalf of Borg CO2, Citec and COWI will develop concepts for carbon capture infrastructure on a semi-industrial scale in Fredrikstad, Sarpsborg and Halden in Norway. The aim is to verify how the Port of Borg can become an industry leader in Norway’s carbon capture initiative.
The possibility of carbon capture and storage in Fredrikstad, Sarpsborg and Halden is a step closer to realization: Borg CO2 recently signed an agreement with engineering consultancy companies Citec and COWI on consulting services.
The agreement includes design and concept solutions for all necessary infrastructure that will enable companies in the local region of Borg to collect CO2 from their production, transport it to Borg harbour in Fredrikstad, before it will finally be sent for permanent reservoir storage 2500-3000 m below the seabed in the North Sea through Northern Lights’ infrastructure project.
The Borg CO2 project includes the development of concepts and design basis for two different value chains on a semi-industrial scale. The value chains are defined as all necessary infrastructure, connection to flue gas at the emitting source, pre-treatment of flue gas, CO2 capture, treatment to meet CO2 product specifications, liquefaction of CO2 as well as transport and intermediate storage of the liquid CO2.
