Cetaqua – a SUEZ company – uses Qualvista analyser for precision monitoring of biogas
Cetaqua has commissioned the Qualvista biogas analyser to its CoSin project – COMRDI15-1-0037, funded by ACCIÓ and the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) under the RIS3CAT Energy Community. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the technical and economic viability of biomethane and synthetic natural gas production, i.e. biogas upgrading and methanation, at an urban wastewater treatment plant. Technologies to be validated include biogas upgrading with membranes as well as catalytic methanation. The Qualvista system plays an important role in the biogas and biomethane quality monitoring, especially in terms of siloxanes, which is a key point to protect the equipment and to meet the end use standards. The Qualvista analyser provides on-time data on the composition of gas measured from multiple sampling points such as inlet biogas and biomethane produced. In addition to siloxanes, methane, H2S, CO2, O2 and limonene are also measured and reported.
The project demonstration unit, which the Qualvista QBM-100 analyser is part of, is set up at the EDAR Sabadell Riu Sec wastewater treatment plant operated by Ajuntament de Sabadell and Companyia d’Aigües de Sabadell (CASSA), near Barcelona, Spain.
Núria Basset, Project Manager at Cetaqua, comments: ”The Qualvista analyser gives us timely information on the gas composition for our project. This is important because the operating conditions and set-up are adjusted or changed frequently and we need reliable measurement data available quickly. The fact that the Qualvista analyser monitors siloxanes on-line is something very innovative and valuable for us, since siloxanes are very difficult to measure even with external analysis. We have been very happy with the equipment and the support that we have received from the Qualvista team.”
Says Juha Lauritsalo, CEO of Qualvista: ”We are pleased to see that the Qualvista analyser and biogas quality monitoring service has provided valuable information for Cetaqua in their demanding application. We are happy to be contributing to the CoSin project which will undoubtedly provide important and useful results for commercial utilization of the technologies that are being tested and validated.”
