Clarke Energy & Ecomed Win “Pollutec Maroc” Award
Clarke Energy and the Ecomed Group, were nominated for the Pollutec Maroc award, and went on to winning the award of the “outstanding achievement” with the Fez landfill in Morocco.
This achievement highlights the biogas from waste landfill built to utilise the domestic waste discharge in the city.
After several years of filling the landfill, Ecomed group decided to utilise this and extract the gas from the waste and this is where Clarke Energy stepped in and supplied installed and maintained a bioelectric facility with an initial power of 1MWe.
This is a first in Morocco, and a first in Africa. A large part of Fez is now lit by the biogas produced by the town’s household waste. The electrical output produced by the power plant is equivalent to 30% of the city’s energy requirements for its street lighting. The plant should eventually have an output of 5 MWe, with the surplus integrated into the city grid. ECOMED Group is the first private company in Morocco specialising in the construction and operation of controlled landfills and has been established in Morocco since 2000.
