Department of Energy Certifies WESTON as Energy Service Company
West Chester, Pennsylvania 02/25/11 8:00 a.m. (Eastern) -- Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON®) was recently certified by the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program as a qualified Energy Service Company (ESCO). DOE Qualified List companies are eligible to perform energy-savings performance contracting at any federal agency.
WESTON has performed energy-related projects for its commercial, state, local, and federal clients for many years, focusing on energy efficiency and energy-savings projects, as well as development and investment in renewable energy projects.
“The certification of WESTON by DOE as an Energy Service Company is a great testament and seal of approval of the energy work we have been performing over the past five years,” said Kathleen A. McGinty, Director of WESTON’s Strategic Growth and Green Development. “With this designation, we look forward to broadening our efforts across the federal government, bringing full solutions including financing to fund energy efficiency projects for clients in the Departments of Defense, Energy and Homeland Security.”
An energy-savings performance project is a partnership between a federal agency and an ESCO. The ESCO conducts a comprehensive energy audit for the federal facility and identifies improvements to save energy. In consultation with the federal agency, the ESCO designs and constructs a project that meets the agency’s needs and arranges the necessary financing. The ESCO guarantees that the improvements will generate energy cost savings sufficient to pay for the project, as well as to provide financial benefits to the client, over the term of the contract. After the contract ends, all additional cost savings accrue to the agency. Contract terms up to 25 years are allowed.
