Eaton Expands Power Supply Offering to Enhance Safety, Reliability in Broader Range of Industrial Applications
PITTSBURGH, PA -- Power management company Eaton today announced it has expanded its general-purpose family of power supplies to enhance safety and reliability in a majority of 12 and 24 volts direct current (Vdc) control applications. The PSG Series of power supplies is designed for seamless integration into communication networks, sensors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and many other electrical systems – and provides global certifications, increased uptime and safety features, and a small footprint to fit a wide variety of applications.
“An expanded voltage range, paired with a host of new features designed to protect personnel and minimize unplanned downtime, helps make the PSG Series an incredibly versatile industrial power supply line,” said Lauren Kaszak, product manager at Eaton. “The new features demonstrate Eaton’s ongoing commitment to developing solutions that not only simplify control panel building, but also extend system availability and worker protection.”
Safety concerns were paramount in the design of the PSG Series. When flammable materials are present, Class I, Division II protection guards the PSG from sparking. Large screw thermals with finger-safe protective covers help protect personnel from electric shock and allow for easy access when wiring the unit. Integrated protection against overvoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature conditions help shield equipment and personnel against transient, internal surges and other voltage disruptions. Further, the PSG Series is available in a National Electrical Code (NEC®) Class II configuration for environments demanding enhanced safety protection from fire initiation and electrical shock.
The expanded PSG Series has also been updated with new standard features allowing for increased equipment uptime, including new redundancy modules, which protect against unplanned downtime by allowing for two or more power supplies to be connected together to perform parallel or redundancy operation. Additionally, an integrated buffer module within the PSG Series stores energy to allow loads to remain powered in the event that input voltage to the system is briefly lost.
To further enhance uptime, the PSG Series provides a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of up to 1 million hours to minimize field maintenance and replacement. A wide operating temperature range (from -25 to 80 degrees Celsius) allows for clean power, even in harsh environments. Intelligent Light Emitting Diodes (LED) indicators help reduce troubleshooting time while rugged, all-metal housing reduces potential for damage to internal electronics.
The PSG Power Supplies provide an ideal complement to Eaton’s electronic motor starter (EMS), a solution for safe and efficient motor starting. The EMS is a full starter with built-in solid-state contacts and integral overload protection. Its compact size and high electrical life (up to 30 million operations) make it an ideal replacement for the traditional contactor/overload relay starter configuration.
