Eaton Showcases Expanded Portfolio of Energy Storage Solutions at 2015 Energy Storage Association Conference, Booth #231
PITTSBURGH, PA -- Power management company Eaton today announced it is showcasing its products and services at the Energy Storage Association (ESA) 25th Annual Conference, from May 27 through 29 at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, Texas. Visitors to Eaton booth #231 will have the opportunity to consult with Eaton application experts, and learn about Eaton’s energy storage solutions and turnkey engineering services for the utility market.
“As a global industry leader with more than 100 years of experience, Eaton provides a single resource for electrical balance of system solutions to help customers deploy energy storage,” said Chris Thompson, grid power business unit manager, Eaton. “With a portfolio of closely integrated solutions and one of the largest and most experienced teams of power systems engineers in the industry, Eaton is well positioned to ensure energy storage projects are executed on time and on budget.”
At the conference, Eaton will showcase balance of system (BOS) power management solutions for energy storage applications, including the latest in direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) switchgear, integrated monitoring and metering technology, and utility-scale energy storage inverters and transformers.
The Eaton Power Xpert® energy storage inverter is a central part of Eaton’s equipment portfolio for energy storage customers that provides industry-leading 98.5 percent efficiency as registered by the California Energy Commission (CEC). Integrated features include AC and DC disconnects, grid protection relay, network monitoring equipment and a low-pressure liquid-cooled design that does not require refrigerants that generate greenhouse gases.
“After field testing on over 100MW of projects within the last year, we are also announcing a new design with an inverter-integrated auxiliary power system. This has been demonstrated to have high customer value and reduce both equipment and installation costs,” said Thompson. “This can be used to provide air conditioning and housekeeping power to battery containers or other local loads at substantial project savings.”
With a true muti-megawatt inverter platform and unique transformer coupling approach, the Power Xpert storage inverter enables a skid-less inverter station that reduces equipment requirements and installation costs. The inverter and transformer are connected through a direct-coupled throat connection to boost system electrical efficiency and reduce cable requirements, pad size and commissioning time.
The inverter is also designed to operate seamlessly with a wide variety of battery chemistries to store and transmit power when needed. The robust design helps to provide precise power ramp rate control and frequency regulation to enhance the reliability of electrical power transmission and distribution.
