EnviTec Biogas gives a starting shot for a new feeding project in Lusatia Germany
Into the first stage of expansion with the ground-breaking ceremony
Lohne -- The first step has been taken:
Sven Zuber, Deputy Mayor of the city of Forst (Lusatia, Germany), Heike Baerwald, member of the Management Board for Urban Development and Construction, and Egbert Lamm from the Business Development department of Forst, as well as Markus von Lehmden, Managing Director for the company-owned operations of EnviTec Biogas AG, started the construction of the new biogas energy park in Forst yesterday with the ground-breaking ceremony.
In order to feed biogas into an existing natural gas network, it must first be cleaned and conditioned. In Forst, this is achieved by means of the innovative biogas upgrading technology EnviThan. For an environmentally friendly and extremely cost-efficient process, EnviTec Biogas is equipping its upgrading plant with membrane modules from Evonik Industries. “The hollow fibre membranes clean more than 97 percent of the methane content from the raw biogas generated in the biogas plant”, says Markus von Lehmden, Managing Director of the company-owned operations of the company based in Lohne.
In its first stage of expansion, the EnviThan gas upgrading plant will supply approximately 60,000 megawatt hours of green energy with an output of 700 standard cubic metres of biomethane per hour, which corresponds to a total contract volume of 14 million euros. “We can thus supply heat to more than 3000 single-family houses,” says Markus von Lehmden. The Deputy Mayor of Forst, Sven Zuber confirms: “The bio-energy park will significantly promote the city of Forst with the implementation of the energy and climate concept “Carbon-neutral Forst until 2030”. We are very happy that the construction is starting with today’s ground-breaking ceremony after long years of thorough preparation.”
The plant commissioning has been planned for the end of 2014. “The location also offers the best conditions for an expansion by an additional 700 standard cubic metres per hour,” continues Markus von Lehmden in his speech. The implementation, however, depends on the framework conditions of the future Renewable Energies Act (EEG).
