European Future Energy Forum to highlight clean transport opportunities and solutions
Drastic change in EU transportation policy has created a new market for renewable and alternative energy. Biofuels, hydrogen and electricity are now certain to contribute to the future of transportation in Europe. The mandatory 10% renewable and alternative input into all EU members means a wide market for biofuels.
Innovation is essential to find further solutions in developing more energy efficient and cleaner transport alternatives. Questions such as ‘How to make the lithium battery last for long distances at high speeds?’ create a great conundrum as manufacturers race to supply giant consumer demand for green, efficient cars.
Transport will be a core theme at the European Future Energy Forum (EFEF) – sister event to the World Future Energy Summit – to be held 9-11 June in Bilbao, Spain. With two keynote conference sessions dedicated to transport as well as roundtable sessions and workshops, delegates will be invited to join the debate and examine the latest ideas and technology offering new opportunities for the transport industry from including alternative fuel production and investment. Confirmed speakers include Steven Norris, former Minister of Transport and Chair of the Transport Working Group, Quality of life Commission in the UK and Enrique Jimenez Larrea, Managing Director of I.D.A.E (Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy) in Spain.
Mr. Larrea will chair the session on Future Energy Policy in Transport and give an overview of the European policy development in this dynamic sector focusing on how transport needs to remain competitive, safe and sustainable particularly in the current economic climate. He will also provide an insight into funds, subsidies, programmes and projects throughout Europe to enable and facilitate implementation of cleaner transport solutions. A panel session debating the issues, obstacles and potential answers will include high-level experts including Robin Chase, Founder & CEO, Meadow Networks; Sandrine Dixson-Declève, Executive Director, International Sustainable Energy Exchange (ISEE), Hart Energy Consulting; Gregory Barker M.P., Shadow Climate Change Minister, UK and James Leape, Director General, WWF.
There will also be a second keynote session dedicated to innovation and new technology development in the transport sector, which is continuing to rapidly evolve. Since the human race shows no sign of falling out of love with the motor vehicle, car makers must identify ways to increase fuel efficiency, reduce the carbon footprint of its manufacturing and aspire to meeting the requirements of the Clean Air Act standard. This high level debate will also address how aviation can reduce the environmental impact of its operations, and investigate the latest green fuels. Panellists to date include: Alex Major, Executive Director, Green Flight Initiative; Dr Sonja Vermeulen, Director, Programme on Business and Sustainable Development, Sustainable Markets Group, International Institute for Environment and Development; Karl John, Business Development Manager Clean Energy, Ricardo UK and Melissa Stark, Senior Executive - Energy Industry, Accenture.
There will also be a Clean Moves area within the EFEF exhibition providing an international trading hub and dedicated workshop area for market proven energy efficient mobility technologies. Clean Moves topics will include biofuels, biogas, biodiesel, butanol, batteries & smart energy storage, carbon fibres, light materials, electric and hybrid engines, electro-bikes, scooters, ethanol fuels, hydrogen from renewables, natural gas (CNG), synthetic fuels and renewable mobility.
