Fluor chosen as EPC Contractor for Dominion`s Brunswick County power station
New gas-fired station to replace output from existing coal units
IRVING, Texas -- Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that it was awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract by Dominion Virginia Power (NYSE: D) to build its new Brunswick County Power Station, a combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power station in Brunswick County, Va. The project investment will exceed $1 billion. Based on the limited notice-to-proceed, Fluor will book a portion of its scope into backlog in the third quarter with the remainder to be booked in 2013 once Dominion receives final permits and approvals.
'Fluor is excited that we've earned the opportunity to build upon our track record with Dominion Virginia Power to provide clean, reliable, low-cost energy to its Virginia customers,' said Dave Dunning, president of Fluor's Power Group. 'Fluor recently completed Dominion's Bear Garden Station in Buckingham County, Virginia, also fueled by clean-burning natural gas, and we look forward to delivering the Brunswick County Power Station in the same successful manner.'
As a leader in the gas-fired EPC arena, Fluor has designed, procured, constructed and commissioned more than 34,000 megawatts of gas-fired power facilities over the past 10 years.
The new, approximately 1,300-megawatt Brunswick County Power Station is expected to be completed by May of 2016 and will produce enough electricity to power more than 325,000 homes. Fluor will design the plant at its engineering office in Charlotte, N.C. It is expected that about 700 craft workers will be onsite during the peak construction period. The Brunswick County Power Station will be located on a 205-acre site on U.S. Route 58 east of Lawrenceville, Va.
New power output from the Brunswick County facility will replace electricity generated by existing coal units at two stations in eastern Virginia that will be retired.
