Forth Energy plans to build four biomass plants in Scotland
Source: Materials Recycling Week
Joint venture Forth Energy is planning to propose biomass power stations at four sites in Scotland.
The collaboration between Scottish and Southern Energy and Forth Ports hopes to undertake consultations on the proposals and next year seek consent to build the plants.
Forth Energy intends to build the plants at Forth Ports sites in Dundee, Leith, Rosyth and Grangemouth. Their total capacity would be around 400 MW and they would also be capable of producing heat to be used at other facilities at the sites.
SSE chief executive Ian Marchant said: “Creating Forth Energy was designed to give us a new series of opportunities to pursue sustainable energy developments and these proposals come in to that category. It is clear that biomass will play an increasingly important role in energy production over the next 10 years and it is an area in which SSE expects to be a significant player.”
Plans are to fuel the plants on reclaimed wood and softwood sourced from sustainably managed forests in the UK and overseas.
