Full hydrazine replacement in boiler
World Water Day is celebrated annually on March 22nd. This year ’s theme ‘Nature for Water’ explores nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century. Kurita´s target is it to engage in environmental improvement activities by expanding environmental benefits for customers and to reduce our internal environmental impact. In boiler water treatment hydrazine has reputation as being one of the most efficient active agent for oxygen scavenging and metal passivation. However, due to its high toxicity and the suspicion that it may be carcinogenic, it is even listed on the ECHA’s (European Chemicals Agency) SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) list. Besides, Kurita decided several years ago to stop using hydrazine to protect its employees. The use of hydrazine in boiler units is thus possible solely under strict regulations for dosage and storage, and at great effort and high expense due to regular measurements of workplace concentrations and annual employee screenings as well as their reporting. Kurita found an alternative for hydrazine with same efficiency and effectiveness, while being easy to use and, above all, non-carcinogenic. https://www.kurita.eu/en/boiler-water-heating-systems
