Geotech launches new portable biogas analyser
The new Geotech Biogas 5000 portable biogas analyser arrives in Jan 2012 with a colour-screen and a 3-year warranty. Up-to-the-minute as a new-generation biogas analyser for anaerobic digesters (AD), the Biogas 5000 has mobile phone-style intuitive menus, tactile buttons and it is fast, small and light. With a clear, full-colour, daylight-readable screen, the Biogas 5000 is about 25 percent smaller and lighter than the Biogas Check which it supersedes. Advances include greater accuracy to ± 0.5 percent. Within AD biogas, the Biogas 5000 measures methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), oxygen (O2) and optionally hydrogen sulphide (H2S) at high- or low-ranges. It also measures flow and holds 500 readings against 10 sample points. Analysis response is halved to 10 seconds, saving time and increasing productivity.
At the press of a button, anyone can see context-sensitive operational and user calibration assistance. These technical help screens explain what to do next. Users can pick up a Biogas 5000, and use it with just a brief look at the manual.
With the new Biogas 5000, Geotech is responding to growing demand for biogas analysers in many countries which have an increasing focus on renewable energy from biogas produced in AD. Biogas from the AD of waste water sludge, animal waste or waste food shows strong annual growth globally. It is seen as a valued renewable energy source and an excellent alternative to sending waste organic matter to landfill.
The Biogas 5000 has evolved from earlier models and uses the latest tried and tested technology for in-field biogas analysis. Its development is based on 22-years’ experience by Geotech in design, manufacture and service of portable biogas analysers – and on vitally important feedback from customers and users. That specialist experience combines to deliver dependable reliability and the latest in user-requested operational functionality for anaerobic digester biogas analysis.
User-driven improvements include all inlet ports now at the top of the Biogas 5000. It meets UK and international certification standards including ISO 17025, ATEX and IECEx. Meeting IECEx is a UK ‘first’. Biogas flow is measured in the Biogas 5000 using an attached anemometer or a Pitot tube. Flow measurement helps monitor biogas production rates. Operational costs for the Biogas 5000 are reduced and fewer replacement filters are needed. User calibration is really easy with menu-driven, easy-to-follow on-screen instructions. To suit users worldwide the extended operational temperature range is now -10 to +50 degrees Celsius.
Biogas 5000 users can have their gas analyser upgraded from the originally selected and purchased specification to be able to measure other gases and parameters as their anaerobic digestion and biogas measurement needs change. The Biogas 5000 is supplied with a hard carry case and a user manual on a CD.
Geotech will hold an open day to demonstrate the new Biogas 5000 on Thursday, 2nd Feb 2012 at its UK base in Leamington Spa.
