At the fourth edition of the ITALIAN PV SUMMIT, Europe, USA and China will confront each other on the competitiveness in the globalized PV market and on the market access and the competition rules. These, among others, will be the main topics of the “ITALIAN PV SUMMIT, roadmap to grid parity”. The international top-conference on solar PV will be held in Verona, Italy, on May 7-8, 2012. The event, as in the past, has been scheduled for the two days preceding the opening of the 13th edition of Solarexpo, the international exhibition and conference.
International experts will confront each other on key issues like: pushing the learning curve: the innovation-driven price downhill towards grid parity; strategic industry policies, proactive export promotion and state aid issues; non discriminatory access to domestic markets; local content clauses in national FiT schemes and dumping charges.
The ITALIAN PV SUMMIT will focus particularly on the issue of the technology roadmap and the industry costs, the commercial policies of global PV leaders, the position of the international PV industry associations and the position of the policy-makers.
'The recent news on the financial difficulties of some of the major industrial European players of the solar PV sector, the impact of the announcement that Q-cells – a world leader until a few years ago – filed for insolvency proceedings, are only the tip of the iceberg of a general reorganization due to an overcapacity crisis, which will probably last a couple of years and which not even the Chinese companies will skip – said Guido Agostinelli, Managing Partner of Syntegra Solar, among the Summit speakers. - In this context competition is getting fiercer; without taking any stance, but considering that the market has been supported for ten years through subsidies paid by the customers of three-four countries, and that the companies of these three-four countries are now in troubles, it’s no surprise that the confrontation reaches the regulatory field and the commercial disputes”, said Agostinelli.
Among the speakers of the Session III: Reinhold Buttgereit, Secretary General, EPIA – European Photovoltaic Industry Association; John Smirnow,Vice President of Trade & Competitiveness, SEIA – U.S. Solar Energy Industries Association; Tom Wu, Secretary General, APVIA – Asia Photovoltaic Industry Association; Jan Gerrit Westerhof, Coordinator of trade-related energy issues, Directorate General for Trade, European Commission; Melanie Hart, China Energy and Climate Policy Analyst, Center for American Progress. Among the companies Andrew Beebe, Chief Commercial Officer Suntech Power. The conclusions will be drawn by Guido Agostinelli, Managing Partner, Syntegra Solar; Götz Fischbeck, President, Smart Solar Consulting and Martin Simonek, Analyst Solar Insight, Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
