GSE Environmental Hosts Coal Ash Technical Seminar
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- GSE Holding, Inc., (NYSE:GSE) the leading global manufacturer and provider of geosynthetic lining products and services, held a Coal Ash Technical Seminar on October 18 in Chantilly, VA. The seminar, led by a panel of seven of the world’s top geosynthetics experts, covered a variety of topics of concern to the coal ash industry, particularly in regard to coal ash combustion and storage. GSE’s Dhani Narejo and Boyd Ramsey were among the presenters. State regulators were also in attendance and participated in discussions about coal ash regulations.
“It was an honor to be among such a distinguished group of geosynthetics experts discussing what is and will continue to be an incredibly important aspect of the energy industry,” said GSE Chief Engineer Boyd Ramsey. “As regulations go into effect, companies will be turning to geosynthetics to ensure they’re compliant. So it’s crucial to stay on top of the technology and give companies the best possible products to address coal ash storage.”
The seminar drew a diverse crowd of attendees from two countries and 17 states. Several topics concerning the use of geosynthetics for Coal Combustion Residuals were covered, with particular focus on drainage and filtration alternatives and design considerations for constructing new disposal cells over legacy ponds. GSE’s CoalDrain product was demonstrated as a superior option for drainage media at CCR facilities.
GSE’s new Coal Ash Barrier System was also unveiled during the seminar. The system addresses increasing concerns about coal ash containment and the possibility of groundwater contamination.
