Iberdrola Renovables commissions first wind farm in Hungary

IBERDROLA RENOVABLES has begun to commission its first wind farm in Hungary, the Kisigmand facility located in the Komarom-Esztergom province in the north of the country. The site will boast an installed capacity of 50 MW.
The facility, which is equipped with 25 Gamesa G90 wind turbines with 2 MW of output each, will enable the company to spearhead the development of wind farms in Hungary, an attractive market given its high growth potential.
IBERDROLA RENOVABLES has also brought on stream the Karscino II wind farm in Poland with 7.5 MW of installed capacity.
Its presence in the wind farm business in Hungary and Poland is part of the company's strategy to grow profitably and expand to other countries, focusing particularly on the US and Europe. IBERDROLA RENOVABLES already has 160.5 MW of installed capacity in Eastern Europe, located in Poland where it has six wind farms.
The company is also present in Romania, Estonia and Bulgaria where its project pipeline stands at 3,729 MW.
IBERDROLA RENOVABLES consolidated its global leadership in the sector* in 2008 after investing a total of €3.8 billion to increase its installed capacity by 2,204 MW to 9,302 MW in the year.
The company has the biggest project pipeline in the sector, standing at 55,117 MW** at the end of 2008. Of this, 41% of projects is in the US, 24.6% in Spain, 9.6% in the UK and 24.7% in the rest of the world.
