Inauguration of Greenlane Biogas Upgrading System at Seabreeze Farm on Saturday, January 31, 2015
Burnaby, BC -- A biogas upgrading system, developed and supplied by Greenlane Biogas, to produce renewable natural gas (RNG) from organic waste at Seabreeze Farm in Delta, BC will be inaugurated this Saturday, January, 31, 2015 from noon to 4:30 pm as part of the 2015 Agri-energy and Waste Management Forum.
Seabreeze Farm purchased the Greenlane Biogas system for a new treatment facility to upgrade biogas generated by an anaerobic digester designed and supplied by CH Four Biogas. The upgrader will process the biogas from approximately 24,000 tonnes of cow manure and off-farm organics to produce over 2 million cubic metres of pipeline grade RNG annually. The ‘Kanuka’ model of upgrader supplied by Greenlane has the capacity to convert biogas to RNG at a rate between 50 to 300 cubic metres per hour. The RNG that is produced will be injected into the local natural gas distribution grid operated by FortisBC, enabling their customers to choose the option of a locally-produced, carbon neutral energy source for their home and business energy requirements.
Greenlane Biogas upgrading systems are offered as five standard modular units of differing gas throughput rates to produce biomethane, a renewable natural gas, of the highest quality. Based on an environmentally friendly process that uses water and no chemicals to remove impurities, the high efficiency upgrading systems produce biomethane with purity > 98%.
“Producing renewable natural gas is a good fit for a dairy farm as it closes the loop and provides us with new opportunities to be more productive and sustainable,” said Jerry Keulen, Owner of Seabreeze Farm. “As a grass-based farm, we feed our soil to provide nutrient rich grass for our cows to produce milk. From the cow manure and other organic waste, biogas is produced and upgraded to renewable natural gas. And in the process, a digestate is generated which is used to feed the soil.”
“We are extremely pleased to deliver our second project in the BC biogas market,” said Brent Jaklin, Managing Director for Greenlane Biogas North America. “We have seen growing interest across the province for renewable energy sources to supplement natural gas. Greenlane supplied the province’s first biogas upgrading plant in 2010, providing our utility partner with almost all of the RNG that it sells to residential and commercial customers.”
The inauguration and site visit to view the Kanuka biogas upgrading system at Seabreeze Farm is open to the public. Pre-registration is required and available at http://www.agricultureshow.net/agri-energy-forum.
