Innovative GTI cover system to be installed at HP Hood
2013-03-12 -- Geomembrane Technologies Inc. (GTI) is excited to be working again with HP Hood LLC at their Winchester, Virginia plant. HP Hood is one of the largest branded dairy operators in the United States with over 15 plants across the country. The dairy company recently upgraded its Winchester plant, which has been in operation since 2000, to accommodate an increase in production.
As part of HP Hood’s larger wastewater treatment upgrade, an ADI-BVF® reactor that breaks down and treats wastewater from the milk processing facility was installed. GTI’s participation in the project includes designing and installing a custom membrane floating cover system for the wastewater treatment system. GTI will also install process piping inside the reactor.
The cover system is specifically designed to capture biogas from the anaerobic process which can then be used as a fuel or disposed in a flare. Capturing the odorous biogas will help protect the company’s image in the City of Winchester. The insulation value of the cover will improve efficiency and effluent quality from the digestion process, helping the plant meet environmental regulations, maintain operating permits, and avoid penalties.
GTI’s project planning for HP Hood’s custom cover system began in summer 2013. Phase I is on-schedule for November 2013 and Phase II is expected to be completed in early 2014.
