London Biomass Plant Turned Down on Air Quality Grounds
Source: Environmental Protection UK
Secretary of State Eric Pickles has dismissed a planning appeal by Blue-NG regarding the construction of a large, liquid biomass combined heat and power plant in Southall, London.
The appeal had been called in by the Secretary of State due to the significance of the proposals for the delivery of the Government's climate change programme and energy policies.
Ultimately, however, the Secretary of State agreed with the recommendation of the Planning Inspector, and the earlier decision by the London Borough of Ealing, who had advised that planning permission be refused on the grounds of the plant's impact on the area's already poor air quality, and on traffic on nearby roads.
