New Canadian energy efficiency standards
Source: Greentech info
Canada's Energy Efficiency Act provides for the making and enforcement of regulations concerning minimum energy performance levels for energy-using products, as well as the labelling of energy-using products and the collection of data on energy use.
The Energy Efficiency Regulations establish energy efficiency standards for energy-using products. They apply to products imported into Canada or manufactured in Canada and shipped across province boundaries. The regulation applies to those involved in the manufacturing, importing, selling or leasing of enegy-using products.
Amendments set minimum energy performance standards for a series of new products and will make existing standards more stringent for other products. The amendments are coming into force between 2007 and 2010.
Labelling requirements
In some, but not all product groups, there is a requirement that the Energuide label has to be affixed to the products. The Energuide label shows that energy efficiency standards are met and is compulsory for refrigerators, freezers, electric ranges, cooktops, ovens, dishwashers, clothes washers, electric dryers and room air conditioners.
