New Dates Added: Combustion and Optimisation in Glass Melting Furnaces Online Training
New Dates Added: Neil Simpson, Simpson Combustion and Energy, is conducting new glass furnace training courses online, sponsored by AMETEK Land and CelSian
Course 1 - Basics of Combustion and Under-Port Burners in Glass Melting Furnaces
1st & 8th February 2021 - Virtual
This half day training online training course will be held on Monday 1st February 8.30-12.30GMT and will be repeated Monday 8th February 13.00-17.00 GMT. The primary audience is furnace operators, supervisors and supporting staff in Environmental, Maintenance, Engineers and related Suppliers. Upon completion of the workshop participants should be;
- aware of basic combustion technology within the context of energy utilisation and emissions legislation
- able to describe the basic processes of burner adjustment for good furnace operation
- able to provide a verbal assessment of combustion status to their supervisor
The primary goal of the morning session is to give all operators a basic understanding of combustion and burner adjustment for good furnace operation with confidence to start the troubleshooting or optimisation of process.
Cost £250 plus VAT per person. A certificate of attendance will be provided and pdf of critical slides. Discounted to £225 plus VAT per person for those attending a 2nd course, CelSian & Simpson Combustion Alumni, Glass Trend and Society of Glass Technology Members.
Course 2 - Furnace Pressure and Combustion Optimisation for Heat Transfer and NOx
2nd & 9th February 2021 - Virtual
This half day training online training course will be held on Tuesday 2nd February 8.30-12.30GMT and will be repeated Tuesday 9th February 13.00-17.00 GMT. The primary audience is experienced furnace operators, supervisors and supporting staff in Environmental, Maintenance, Engineers and related Suppliers. Upon completion of the workshop participants should be;
- aware of the importance in furnace pressure and impact on the furnace operation
- confident in applying a troubleshooting and combustion optimisation processes
- aware of emerging burner technologies for NOx reduction
As a result of recent emission legislation many plants have to meet increased emissions limits specifically for NOx. In many companies there are only one or two personnel who know how the current Low NOx burners work and have the confidence to adjust burners. This is frequently the highest single point of energy utilisation on a glass plant. To conclude there will be an overview of new combustion technology.
Cost £250 plus VAT per person. A certificate of attendance will be provided and pdf of critical slides. Discounted to £225 plus VAT for those attending a 2nd course, CelSian & Simpson CombustionAlumni, Glass Trend and Society of Glass Technology Members.
Course 3 - Basics of In-Furnace Thermal Imaging and What It Really Shows
3rd & 10th February 2021 - Virtual
This half day online training course will be held on Wednesday 3rd February 8.30-12.30GMT and will be repeated Wednesday 10th February 13.00-17.00 GMT. The primary audience is Furnace Operators, Batch and Furnace Managers, supervisors and supporting staff in Environmental, Maintenance, Engineers and related Suppliers. By using data files from oxy fuel, regenerative endfired and cross-fired furnaces will show how the thermal data can be interpreted
Upon completion of the workshop participants should be;
- able to measure thermal profile to confirm hot spot location and deviation from set point
- identify hot/cold spots and refractory damage to protect asset over time
- able use time lapse for batch pile tracking with alarms
Cost £295 plus VAT per person. A certificate of attendance will be provided and pdf of criticalslides. Discounted to £250 per person plus VAT for those attending a 2nd course, AMETEK Land NIR-B users, CelSian & Simpson Combustion Alumni, Glass Trend and Society of Glass Technology Members.
Course 4 - How to use In-Furnace Thermal Imaging and Survey for Furnace Optimisation
4th & 11th February 2021 - Virtual
This half day online training course will be held on Thursday 4th February 8.30-12.30GMT and will be repeated Thursday 11th February 13.00-17.00 GMT. The course is aimed at Batch and Furnace department and associated personnel. The primary audience is Batch and Furnace Managers, supervisors and supporting staff in Environmental, Maintenance, Engineers and related Suppliers. By using data files from oxy fuel, regenerative end-fired and cross-fired furnaces will show how the thermal data can be used to potentially increase pull/yield, reduce energy and emissions, with the underlying goal to protect the furnace asset.
- assess potential for yield or through-put improvements
- identify source/locations of parasitic air or over-cooling
- identify regenerator blockages
- able to analyse air fuel flames for combustion optimisation for energy and NOx reduction
- consider camera locations for permanent installations and surveys
Cost £295 plus VAT per person. A certificate of attendance will be provided and pdf of critical slides. Discounted to £250 per person plus VAT for those attending a 2nd course, AMETEK Land NIR-B users, CelSian & Simpson Combustion Alumni, Glass Trend and Society of Glass Technology Members.
Course 5 - Oxy Fuel combustion in glass melting
5th & 12th February 2021 - Virtual
This half day training online training course will be held on Friday 5th February 8.30-12.30GMT and will be repeated Friday 12th February 13.00-17.00 GMT. The course is aimed at Batch and Furnace department, Industrial Gas Companies, Combustion companies and associated personnel. The primary audience is furnace operators, supervisors and supporting staff in Environmental, Maintenance, Engineers and related Suppliers including design and commissioning engineers. Upon completion of the workshop participants should be;
- aware of basic oxy combustion technology within the context of energy utilisation and emissions legislation
- able to describe the basic processes of oxy burner adjustment for good furnace operation
- able to provide a verbal assessment of combustion status to their supervisor
- confident in applying a troubleshooting and combustion optimisation processes
- awareness of oxy fuel technologies and potential applications
The primary goal of the session is to give all operators a basic understanding of oxy fuel combustion and burner adjustment for good furnace operation with confidence to start the troubleshooting or optimisation process. Both 100% oxy fuel and oxy fuel boosting of regenerative furnaces will be covered.
Cost £295 plus VAT per person. A certificate of attendance will be provided and pdf of critical slides. Discounted to £250 plus VAT for those attending a 2nd course, CelSian & Simpson Combustion Alumni, Glass Trend and Society of Glass Technology Members.
