ONCE presents award to Abengoa for its contribution to the employment prospects of disabled people
- The company is the winner of the “Company” category in the second edition of ONCE’s “Premios Solidarios” in Andalusia.

Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B/P SM /NASDAQ: ABGB), the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has been named as the winner of the “Company” category in the second edition of ONCE’s “Premios Solidarios” (Solidarity Awards) in Andalusia. The award recognizes the company’s contribution to helping disabled people enter the employment market.
Abengoa has always been committed to integrating disabled people into its business activities by means of different programs. During the awards ceremony, José Domínguez Abascal, Technical General Secretary of Abengoa, said, “At Abengoa we are firmly committed to equality and solidarity within our organization, and we try to work towards social responsibility every day. We therefore believe in social and employment opportunities for disabled people, promoting employment, integration and accessibility. Indeed, today Abengoa employs more than 100 people with disabilities in Spain, who work with us every day in our commitment to social responsibility and integration”.
The awards ceremony was attended by Susana Díaz, President of the Junta de Andalucía; Andrés Ramos Vázquez, Vice-president of ONCE; Ventura Pazos, President of the ONCE Regional Council for Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla; and Patricio Cárceles Sánchez, the organization’s regional representative.
The event was held in the Joaquín Turina room at the Cajasol Foundation in Seville, where award winners in other categories also received their awards. These included Carlos Amigo Vallejo in the “Individual” category; the Parque Tecnológico de la Salud de Granada Foundation in the “Public Administration” category; the Secretariado Gitano Foundation in the “Institution” category; and the newspaper El Correo de Andalucía in the “Media” category.
The ONCE “Premios Solidarios” awards are presented to people, entities, institutions and media that carry out socially responsible work that promotes social inclusion for all citizens, in line with the core values of the institutional culture of ONCE and its Foundation, and the philosophy that underlies the social economy and the objectives of the third sector.
The jury for these awards was chaired by Ventura Pazos, President of the ONCE Regional Council, and comprised Patricio Cárceles, ONCE regional representative; Manuel Sánchez, President of the Council for the Third Sector in Andalusia; José Manuel Porras, President of CERMI-A; Gonzalo Riva, Director General for Disabled People at the Regional Government of Andalusia; Sebastián García, head of social affairs at Canal Sur Televisión; and Antonio Mayor, Communication Manager at ONCE.
The diverse initiatives and programs implemented by Abengoa to promote the employment prospects of disabled people include the “Inserta & Integra” research project; the implementation of aid programs for companies to employ disabled people, via the Focus-Abengoa Foundation; or giving courses, such as the course by the Secretariado, which is now in its sixth edition. All of these are designed to attract and train people with various types of disabilities in order to improve their employment opportunities in the different areas in which Abengoa operates.
