Pennslyvania increases investment in clean fuels
Much is happening in Pennsylvania on the clean energy front. Last week, legislators passed the Alternative Energy Investment Act (AEIA), which provides over US$500 million of funding for alternative and clean energy and energy conservation projects. In addition to this, new biofuels legislation includes a mandate for sales of biodiesel and cellulosic ethanol blends and sets aside up to US$5 million for subsidies for biodiesel producers. At the 2nd International 'energy from biomass and waste' (EBW) Exposition & Conference, held on October 14-16, 2008 in Pittsburgh, PA, stakeholders will meet to discuss new projects and see the latest technology for biomass and waste-to-energy conversion.
The second EBW Expo is expected to showcase exhibits from more than 80 international organizations and to attract over 1,000 delegates. Topics include; sustainable biomass; environmentally benign alternative fuel production; energy recovery from municipal solid waste; landfill diversion; water quality protection.
'EBW is all about clean, reliable and affordable energy supply from domestically available resources', explains Dr. Ines Freesen, Managing Director of the organizer Freesen & Partner GmbH. 'In times of exploding fuel prices and growing concern over climate protection, air and water pollution, energy recovery from biomass and waste can become an important part of the solution.'
The EBW Conference kicks off with a legislative and market update for the United States and Europe. Further sessions focus on: energy efficiency and cost saving potentials of biomass and waste conversion; anerobic digestion of energy crops, wood waste, agricultural and biowaste; the economic and ecological benefits of energy from biomass and waste; the state of affairs and perspectives for biofuel production; operating experience from bioenergy and waste-to-energy facilites.
The 'energy from biomass and waste' (EBW) Exposition & Conference is organized by Freesen & Partner GmbH, Alpen, Germany and takes place on October 14 to 16, 2008 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA.
