Royalla Solar Farm in ACT officially opened
10 September 2014 - The Royalla Solar Project, currently the largest solar farm in Australia, was officially opened by the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) Minister for the Environment Simon Corbell on 4 September 2014.
Solar development company FRV Services Australia (FRV) commenced construction of its Royalla 20MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project located in the ACT in October 2013.
FRV was the first applicant to be successful in the large-scale solar auction process run by the ACT government. Under the auction scheme the project will receive a Feed-in Tariff (FiT) for the electricity generated over a period of 20 years.
As the owner’s engineer, Aurecon worked closely with FRV and the contractor Acciona Energy Oceania to ensure the delivery of the project on time and within budget.
“Aurecon has a depth of experience across all the technical disciplines required and their project management abilities have proven invaluable in assisting FRV to successfully deliver this important solar project,” said FRV’s Project Manager, Javier Bahamonde.
Aurecon’s role as Owner’s Engineer was to maintain a full-time presence on site during the construction period to provide project management services and to coordinate technical reviews by the Aurecon engineering specialists in the Sydney Office.
This full-time site presence has allowed Aurecon to closely monitor and manage project issues as they arise on site.
While this is Aurecon’s first owner’s engineer role it has undertaken on a large greenfield solar project in Australia, Aurecon has been able to bring to the project its experience developed in conducting similar roles on numerous large wind farm projects over the last decade.
