Scottish ingenuity on display - GE Oil & Gas `Innovation Now` portfolio showcased at Aberdeen’s Offshore Europe 2009 Event
GE Oil & Gas, a world leading company in oil & gas advanced technology equipment and services, will showcase a number of groundbreaking products and technologies at the upcoming Offshore Europe Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition, being held from 8-11 Sept 2009 in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Matt Corbin, Regional Leader UK & Continental Europe, GE Oil & Gas said: “GE Oil & Gas is deeply committed to the North Sea and to Scotland which, as home to both our world-class Subsea Tree Assembly and Test facility and our soon-to-be-opened European Global Services Hub, really is an engine-room powering the growth of our global drilling and production business. It’s a pleasure to launch our new S-Series SVXT Subsea Tree here, as the product was designed and manufactured in Aberdeen and is testimony to the pioneering engineering expertise driving the industry forward.”
The new S-Series SVXT subsea tree merges horizontal and vertical tree technology, reducing weight by 20%, reducing height, and also delivering essential functionality in a pre-engineered, pre-configured 'modular' way. Lowest-cost installation of the new SVXT is achieved through a design enabling deployment using standard offshore jack-up drilling rigs without need for major modifications.
New SVXT design features include smaller tree and fisher-friendly wellhead protection structures, as well as an innovative barrier approach that removes the need for a separate tree cap. The SVXT comes with GE’s award-winning SemStar5-powered ModPod as standard control system, along with service and analysis packages, including flow-assurance, riser analysis and other essential elements.
GE Oil & Gas will also introduce the LM6000 Enhanced Package turboshaft gas turbine. A 3-D animation (at the GE Offshore Europe event Booth #1077) will demonstrate its enhanced production capability of more than 40 megawatts. The product is targeted at the 40MW to 50MW offshore mechanical drive market and is appropriate for LNG production, liquefaction, natural gas applications and pipeline compression. The LM6000 offers enhanced reliability and availability, reduced footprint and weight, ease of maintenance and reduced installation and commissioning time.
Additional products and technologies on display at the GE Oil & Gas booth include:
- The Blue-C Subsea Compressor, the world’s first subsea compressor. The compressor is driven by a gas-filled, high-speed electric motor stacked in a vertical orientation, and packaged in a single sealed housing designed to withstand high hydrostatic pressure. The Blue-C combines robust design, sophisticated materials and rigorous testing, to deliver reliable, unattended operation at more than 2950 feet below sea level with power up to 20 megawatts.
- The MR-6-H SE riser coupling, which is rated for 3.5 million pounds and features a fully automated make-up process, eliminating the potentially hazardous manual set-up process and reducing a 20-minute process to 60 seconds. The award-winning technology’s time and cost savings are revolutionary.
- A scale model of the BCL compressor for sour gas reinjection. The ecomagination™-certified BCL compresses the associated gas (CO2 and other greenhouse gases) that is usually extracted from wells and re-injects it into the same reservoir, increasing its yield by up to 20 percent while minimizing the ultimate release of greenhouse gases.
- The MagneScan in-line inspection system, the next-generation magnetic flux leakage device that allows operators to map pipelines as small as 6-inch diameter while inspecting for metal loss and geometry features in a single run.
